My sermon preached on 10/07/07

Note: I can’t remember where I got all this stuff, but I’m sure I did not think up all of this by myself!

The Woman Taken In Adultery
John 8:1-11

1. The Fairness of Jesus
A. He would not deny the charge
Fair to the men
Fair to the woman
Fair to God (Himself)
Application: Fair to us and our sin—don’t deny it!

B. He would not limit the charge—Not just one person and one sin
Application: We easily see the sin of others

2. The Feelings of Jesus—He waited till they were alone to deal with her.
Application: Man’s evaluation must be removed before . . .

3. The Forgiveness of Jesus
A. He saw her heart
B. He spoke with courtesy—“woman”
C. He spoke with compassion—“where … Neither do I condemn …”
1) Unexpected
2) Unlimited
Note: Man’s forgiveness is “All, but …”
God’s forgiveness is “All” (1John 1:7, 9)
(“7 … the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. … 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”)

4. The Faithfulness of Jesus (“go and sin no more”)
Note: “go” only = condoning, excusing

A. He wants Repentance—Not just acknowledgement of sin. (“sin no more”)

B. He wants Restoration (“go”)
Don’t kick her when she’s down
Don’t let her sin be a hindrance the rest of her life
